The British tabloid press and immigration

Immigration is something of an obsession in the British popular press, a vast majority of the UK’s tabloids treating the subject with vitriolic hostility, xenophobia, if not downright racism. Between the general election of May 2010 and August 2016, a paper like ‘The Daily Express‘ splashed on immigration issues on no less than 179 occasions, while ‘The Daily Mail‘ did so 122 times. Please find below a selection of some of the best/worst front pages.

And for more information on the subject, notably the British press’s treatment of the refugee crisis, please Liz Gerard’s in-depth analysis published on the SubScribe website on 3 September 2015, “The press and immigration: reporting the news or fanning the flames of hatred?
